My work comes from a traditional background which I learnt from my father and Uncle. I try to keep that link as much as possible whilst expressing my appreciation for surrealism and modern culture. The paintings like “Smile” are all from a series called “Masked”.
I use women mainly as the main subject matter as a tribute to them and the masks are there to represent the metaphorical ones we use daily. Women especially have to put up barriers more so than men. The original “Smile” has a very small detail hidden in the painting which is where the name derives.
